Space Clear your Home

Space Clearing is a technique we can use to change the existing energy pattern in our home or office and bring in the new kind of energy, or intention, we desire. It seems a far-fetched idea in a lot of ways, but when I talk to people about it, they realize they are much more sensitive than they thought they were, and that they do in fact, naturally sense the energy in places. For example, if they walk into a room where there has been an argument, they can feel it. We go into buildings that feel very uncomfortable, creepy even.

We even have phrases in the english language to describe what we are sensing. For example, after an argument or a tense situation, we say ‘the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife’. It means the emotion is tangible, has  a physical presence.

Of course we can also pick up other emotions such as joy and happiness. There are places we go that feel wonderful to be in.

There are many different types of space clearing techniques that can be done. This following example is a simple method that can be used by anyone to clear the energies in their own home.

Step One

Space Clearing ideally begins with physically cleaning the rooms of your house or office. The more thoroughly you clean, the better the results of space clearing. The physical act of cleaning sets the tone and actually begins to do some of the work. If you do space clearing without cleaning, the effect is not the same.

It is akin to getting dressed in your finest clothing for a special event, but not bothering to clean your body before hand, or wash your hair. Cleaning definitely includes vacuuming and sweeping, putting items back in their proper places, dusting and wiping down surfaces.

To go further, it can include washing the windows, making sure the dust under beds is removed, washing down the walls.  Therefore, space clearing is something you prepare for. You can do the cleaning the night before and then do the actual space clearing the next day.  On the day of the space clearing, prepare yourself by taking a purifying bath with salt, or use a few drops of lavender essential oil on a cloth in the shower.

Step Two

Set your intention: what kind of energy do you want to bring into your home? Take time to get clear and focused on what you want to accomplish. One method of focusing your energy is to create a blessing altar as a physical representation of your intention. The blessing altar also holds the energy for the space clearing. Items to put on the altar include:

  • Something that represents the new energy you want to bring in, healthy green plants and/or flowers, candles, essential oils, crystals, personal objects such as photographs.

Step Three

Begin the actual space clearing. You can use a tool, such as a bell if you have one, or you can use your hands by clapping. In the example below, I am using the clapping method:

  • Spend a few moments of reflection by your blessing altar. Take a few deep breaths and drink some water. You might wish to ask for guidance, say a prayer or meditate.
  • Beginning at the doorway (if doing the entire home, begin at the front entrance to your home) walk around the room clockwise clapping your hands. Pay particular attention to corners and any areas that feel heavy, sticky, stagnant or thick. The sound your hands make is often more muffled where the energy is stagnant.
  • Continue until the sound is crisp and clear and you have completed the room and are back in your original starting place.
  • Move your hand in the infinity symbol (figure-eight turned on its side) to seal the room.
  • Continue on to the next room and repeat this procedure until you have done the entire house.
  • Finish your Space Clearing ceremony by returning to the blessing altar.

Step Four

In Step three you broke up and removed the stale, stagnant energy. Some space clearing methods recommend repeating this step, but instead of concentrating on breaking up the energy, put your focus on the new energy you want to bring into the house, room by room.  You can also do this step at your blessing altar. Which ever method you use, it is important to envision the type of energy you wish to fill your home. Whatever energy you invite will be the energy that infuses your home.

When you are finished, give thanks for the guidance you have received during the space clearing.

Many people notice a change in their home right away, and there are steps you can take to preserve the energy. For example, you could make your blessing altar into a permanent home altar or write words that convey the feeling you wish to achieve in your life and insert them into planted pots. What are other ideas you can think of to preserve the energy?
