Traditionally, the Water Element represents our emotional states. If you think about it, there are so many metaphors in the English language that concern water and the emotions:

We can have pent up emotions. The image here is that there is so much pressure from the held in emotions, they could burst at any moment. What analogy for water can we find? Water pipes burst under pressure as do dams. After a heavy rain that causes flooding, the quality and pressure of the water cannot be contained in the river banks.
We also say someone is flooded with emotions when they are highly emotional.
When they are angry, we say they are raging (a raging river).
When we are excited, thoughts and emotion pour out of us.

But really what this tells us is that the element of Water can take multiple forms and shapes many of which are hidden below the surface. Just think of how many different forms water can take. There is a great deal of activity and depth in the Water element that we can use to give us balanced emotions, with balanced responses to the situations of life we find ourselves in.

The element of Water gives us the inner depth and flexibility as we do our searching, or practice and refine if we know already what we are meant to do with our lives. Putting Water element enhancements in our career area give us the flow and direction to do this inner work.

Water element Symbols:

The colour for this area is black or very dark shades of other colours
Anything related to the element of water such as fountains and water features including images and symbols of water – oceans, lakes, or waterfalls.
Things which remind you of your career and achievements
Free form, undulating shapes
Mirrors represent the element of Water in feng shui.

Of course there will be symbols which are uniquely meaningful to you that represent paths you are pursuing, or your passions in your life. If you do not know what these might be, take a look again at the Exercise for Day One when you created your wish list.

Placing Your Enhancement

Place your symbols in Career area of your home or office. As always, place your enhancements with ceremony and intention, either silently, with prayer, or spoken words.
