Introduction

Welcome to this course on Feng Shui and Colour. Before we get started, I want to take a few moments to discuss what doing feng shui is all about – whether you are learning to be a practitioner, are already a practitioner, or are taking this course for your own interest.

Rather than defining what a feng shui consultant is, let’s start from the other side: why do people want to get a feng shui practitioner to advise them on their home?

Here are some reasons I have found in my own practice:

  • They have heard or read that a certain feature is ‘bad’ and they’ve just realized that they have that scenario in their own home, and they are worried about it affecting them and/or changing their luck.
  • They want help with colour and decorating, but with an energetic perspective rather than a purely decorative or fashion viewpoint.
  • Something in their home doesn’t feel right. They may or may not know what it is, but they don’t know what to do about it.

So to me, in the simplest terms, a feng shui practitioner is called into a person’s home because something seems out of balance and they want the feng shui expert to identify, and suggest remedies to fix it.

Now, what makes an expert? Certainly there are tools, rules and formulas – some of which you will be learning in this course, but I believe that the ability to listen with all senses, which means hearing both what is said, and what is left unsaid, as well as what you sense in the space, is really what makes a feng shui practitioner an expert.

Colour is a great place to start because you already know this tool. After all you have been surrounded by it, and using it, your whole life. But this course will help you become more intuitively aware of the role of colour in homes, as well as showing you some rules, tools and formulas!

In all the feng shui consultations I have done since becoming certified as a Feng Shui Practitioner in 2001, nearly all of them have had one thing in common: questions about colour. As the feng shui expert I’ve been asked:

  • to choose a general colour scheme for the house or business
  • to give advice on the best colours for individual rooms, especially the bedroom
  • what colour to paint the front door
  • what is the best colour for the house exterior
  • even what colour the roof should be!

In learning feng shui, colour is a really good place to start. in any stage of your feng shui experience — whether you are beginning or are a seasoned Practitioner.

What You Are Going to Learn

In this course you will get a firm foundation for beginning and expanding your colour expertise.

You’ll learn about:

  1. Colour properties and the effects they have on us, both emotionally and physically.
  2. How to use colour in partnership with feng shui principles such as the bagua map and five elements, and also how to use colour in an intuitive free-form approach.
  3. How to create colour palettes and move colour around a room. I draw on my experience as a visual artist. I’ve worked with colour on interiors, paper, fabric, clay, wood — well just about every surface I could get my hands on!
  4. I will be sharing the technique I use with clients to determine which colour families they feel most comfortable in. This technique will give you insightful recommendations for colour schemes your client may not have thought of.
  5. You will learn how the colours in your environment and your personal energy fields interact, become more aware and sensitive to colour.
  6. In addition, you will learn what to do when people who have different likes, dislikes and colour needs come together - what to do when people disagree! You will be able to help people choose colour for living spaces that will feel happy and harmonious to everyone.
