This was one of the most powerful exercises I did when I was first learning feng shui. The front door can tell us so much about how we feel about our home. For one thing, all the energy for your home enters through the front door. It sets the tone and makes the first impression. So naturally, we want that first impression to be a good one.
It wasn’t that I discovered something I didn’t already know when I did the meditation: I just didn’t know how much the few things that needed to be done were bothering me. When I realize the degree of annoyance and guilt that hit me everytime I came home, I knew I had to get those jobs done right away.
Entering the front door is also important because it symbolizes transitions; it is the transition between the big world ‘out there’ and your private life. Entering your front door is to step into your private sanctuary.

Hi Ellen,
Thank you. I have been contemplating the recent studies that says that transitioning from room to room, especially going through doorways ‘comparmentalizes’ the mind — and is related to forgetting things. This really spoke to me of why we can leave the world outside behind when we come through our front door. It is one more reason why we want to pay attention to these transition areas!
I believe following Feng Shui is truly one of the best thing to do to make life easier. For me, Feng Shui is not just a belief but its makes us works through the best of what is the best for us. The freedom it gives us is awesome. Its a helpful post. Thanks for sharing it.
interesting view on the front door not to mention the importance of the facing direction as well in feng shui
